Higher Courage is the story of two military families with one member of each family deployed to the Middle East. The characters carry over from Kirkland's first book 'Higher Honor'. Even if you don't read the first book, this book will still make sense (I read this one first) although some of the pieces came together after I read the first book to get a frame of reference. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I didn't realise the storyline was going to involve so much prayer and religion. This is not a bad thing, just something to be aware of when selecting this book.Product details

Solid, real characters with totally believeable character. Thorough knowledge of things military and the difficult conditions under, and circumstances in which, they are required to function, not to mention the tragedy/ies into which they are inevitably ... or should that be remorselessly ... drawn. What grabbed me most of all ... it's a wonderful example of Christian fiction ... brilliant! You really need to buy a copy to discover the ending ... was it happy? See for yourself ... the answer is definitely worth more than the couple of dollars . Can't wait to get my hardcopy in hand. Buy yours now ...
This book kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. It gave me a better view into the lives of military families as well as a better understanding of what happens when one relies on pain pills (no matter how great the reality of the need). I found myself really getting into the story and 'rooting for' the characters; a sign of a good plot/story line. I took the book with me everywhere I went so I could finish it. ;-) FYI S.M. Kirkland also has a book called Higher Honor (that doesn't need to be read b/4 this book) that is also a great read and kept me up at night because I just couldn't put it down.
This book was a great read. Once I started reading I just wanted to keep going! The book is filled with drama. It felt like the characters came to life as you follow their choices and the results of those choices.
